I got involved with Schutzhund about 7 years ago. My first sport dog, Hannah, achieved her Sch3 several years ago and, until recently, has been enjoying retirement. Erik and I began working together about 3 years ago. Together we achieved his Sch1 and are planning on taking his training through the Sch3. Unfortunately, an injury has suspended his training, hence Hannah being brought out of retirement. With 3 years off and at 9 years old, she still comes out onto the field like she did years ago, barking, tail wagging.
The joy and excitement this sport brings to my dogs is at the top of the list for my being involved in Schutzhund. For me, it is always a challenging learning experience that never grows tiring. This is a great way to interact and bond with your dog while doing something you both enjoy.
Adding to all the up sides of this sport, training with John over the years has had, in no small part, an influence on my continuing with a positive attitude. John has brought both of my dogs over some very difficult training hurtles with what seemed to look like ease. The drive and dedication John puts into his work is impressive and the training atmosphere is always positive. With all that I still have to learn, it is good to know that I can feel confident I am receiving the correct training and advice for my dogs.
The rewards Schutzhund has brought to both my dogs and me makes the time and dedication it takes well worth the effort. My plans are to continue training with Hannah and Erik and build on what I have learned with future working partners.
